PADDSA
PADDSA is a Visions for Nigeria program aimed
at discouraging Drunk Driving and substance Abuse.
Alcohol is a major factor in traffic accidents. There are large
numbers of alcohol and/or substance-related traffic fatality every
day in Nigeria. The alcohol and/or substance-related injuries are in
multiples of the fatalities. Alcohol-related crashes are defined a
those where someone involved, either a driver or a pedestrian or
another occupant, had a traceable amount of alcohol in his or her
blood.
In the United States, drunk driving is defined as having 0.08
(lowered from 0.10) blood alcohol content (BAC). Visions for Nigeria
PADDSA program especially targets learner-drivers, under-aged
drivers, ‘Okada’ (motorcycle) riders, cattle rearers, express road
residents.
People Against Drunk Driving and Substance
Abuse (PADDSA), which commenced recently and have gain lots of
ground in educating people against the ills of Substance Abuse and
Drunk Driving. This was done in collaboration with the Federal Road
Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Drivers’ Welfare Club.
This was a one month program before the organization’s annual
anniversary celebration in August. In collaboration with Nations
Federal and Drivers Welfare club, Road Safety Commission, (PADDSA)
gained a lot of grounds in educating people against the ills of drug
abuse and drunk driving.
More to this project was the mobilization of disabled crippled
persons, as volunteers who rolled on wheels on major traffic stops
on the road, to remind drivers to put on their seat belts.
